As a barrister he is uniquely positioned to provide the powerful clarity of a dual perspective, combining a wealth of high calibre first hand commercial experience and a career at the Bar that now extends across almost 20 years. In that time Samuel has advised clients, from high profile sports professionals to landlords, property developers, SMEs and business and property owners and executives. Each one has benefitted from his skilful and straightforward approach to what are frequently sensitive, high profile or challenging technical legal issues.
Breadth of experience
Combining these former commercial roles with almost two decades of exceptional legal practice and experience, Samuel now advises a broad spectrum of clients across the following areas:
Quantity surveyor, to entrepreneur, to barrister
Samuel’s professional background includes a previous career as quantity surveyor with the prestigious Henry Cooper & Sons (established 1775). This is in addition to working as a construction project manager responsible for multi-million-pound construction and engineering projects, including London’s Canary Wharf business district. Samuel has also been a successful entrepreneur, which has provided him with a unique understanding of the pressures and challenges that are faced by SMEs, particularly when legal issues arise. Plus, he has held senior managerial, in-house counsel positions and directorships for many years.
This blend of experience has provided a sound understanding of the responsibility that sits on the shoulders of company directors, solicitors, agents, accountants, architects, quantity surveyors, engineers or other professional advisers. The consequent depth of insight enables Samuel to tailor his advice to take into account the wider commercial context.
Expert, technical, down to earth
Written and oral advocacy in litigation are noted strengths for Samuel whose practice integrates legal expertise as well as the broader commercial context. Samuel understands the power of effective communication and is committed to legal advice that is free of jargon, down to earth and specifically tailored to the needs and objectives of the client. In an industry that frequently involves intricately balanced arguments and technical legal issues, Samuel is notable as a practitioner focused on clarity and outcomes even in the most fraught or complicated of cases.
Getting to the heart of each matter
With a keen appreciation of the need for expediency and taking into account the broader perspective, Samuel is renowned for getting efficiently to the heart of each case. He is particularly skilled with respect to identifying the central issues and formulating solutions that best resolve them. Samuel appreciates the balance in advocacy between tact and forcefulness, particularly when to press and when to take a subtler approach. His breadth of work and client testimonials are evidence of a versatile and insightful advocate with a sharp legal mind and a unique commercial perspective.
